Tubac is a Historic, Walkable Arts Community

Established in 1752 as a Spanish presidio, the first Spanish colonial garrison was built in Tubac and located across the street from the Floating Stone. In 1775, Juan Bautista de Anza and Spanish colonists departed Tubac to settle San Francisco.

Today, the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail is just a few steps from the Floating Stone. It’s a scenic 3.2 mile riparian hike along the Santa Cruz River between the Tubac Presidio State Park and the Tumacacori National Historical Park.

With average summer highs in the 90’s and winter highs in the 60’s, outdoor living and wellness activities fill the day. Home to world-class art, sculpture garden, fine dining, live music, hiking and biking, bird watching, golf courses, park and museum and nearly 100 shops and galleries…there’s something for everyone in Tubac.

We want you to enjoy your time in Tubac and Southern Arizona, so here are some helpful links to maximize your visit.  Tubac is a small Village, so most things are walking distance from the Floating Stone Inn.  Destinations in southern Arizona are anywhere from 5 – 10 minutes away, or about 30 minutes at most from the Floating Stone Inn.
