Lodging and Eco-Friendly Aqua Spa in Tubac

A note from Linda Ellinor
Owner, Floating Stone Inn & Aqua Spa
In 2006, I purchased the historic Charles Poston Residence, better known as the “Poston Block,” at 16 -18 Calle Iglesia, in the artist village of Tubac, AZ. It was in mint condition and had been in use by an Oregon-based artist, Michael Gibbons, as his residence, gallery, and studio. It was built in 1853 by Poston who is known as the founding father of Arizona. This property is listed in the Registry of Historic Buildings and sits in the historic district of Tubac. In 2007, I acquired the adjacent property at 20 Calle Iglesia, built at the turn of the 19th century. Both homes are all adobe structures and have been renovated over the years. While I am making changes to the interior of the Poston Residence, by turning them into 4 inn rooms, the exterior is maintained in its original condition. The interior fireplaces and floors remain, as will the original beams.
After years of working in corporate America and in my own consulting practice, teaching David Bohm’s proposal of “Dialogue”, I decided to root myself in one place and open a retreat center that would mirror my values of small-scale living, wellness, and sustainability. My vision was to develop a unique, yet sustainable property where guests will be able to slow down, relax in a healthy, chemical-free environment, and learn to live more resiliently through our programs.
Over the three years that it has taken to develop the property, I have a much deeper respect for the role that water plays in our health and well being. I never knew, the link between chlorine, cancer and the other health problems. Being a swimmer all of my life, I knew for instance, I wanted to remove chlorine from the pools. I was tired of the red eyes, dry skin, and brittle hair that is a normal part of everyday swimming in chlorinated pools. When I came down with a health issue last year connected to my exposure to chlorine, I researched the health impact of chlorine. Most people don’t realize that chlorine is linked to cancer and other degenerative health issues. This is the reason I use an alternative water filtration process that ionizes the water and removes the chlorine that comes from the public water system. It is also one of the reasons we are offering alkaline/ionized water for drinking and cooking. We now refer to the Floating Stone Inn & Aqua Spa as a “water wellness center.”
The Vision & Mission of the Floating Stone:
- To bring eco-living and wellness together to create a sustainable world…
- To provide education and inspiration within a nurturing, supportive environment for living in balance with nature and community…
- To bring awareness of the role that ionized water plays in optimal wellness…
